Eric Buchman is a professional poker player whose recent exploits have placed him in the most profound situation of his poker career – a guaranteed set in the November Nine. His sensational poker play at the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event has landed him in the final table with the second largest chip stack of 34.8 million, behind only Darvin Moon.
At 29 years of age, the Valley Stream, New York native is no stranger to tournament cashes. Eric Buchman has finished in the bubble at 22 live poker tournaments, accumulating well over $900,000. Astonishingly enough, all of those cashes combined pale to the minimum $1,263,602 he is guaranteed to take home when the November Nine resume action later this year.
He will enter into the final table of the 2009 WSOP Main Event with the confidence of knowing that he is one of the most experienced poker pros at the table. Only Phil Ivey and Jeff Shulman have more impressive poker careers than Buchman, Ivey being the more dominant WSOP aficionado.
Eric’s first documented live tournament cash came in December of 2002 at the US Poker Championships. At the ripe young age of 22, he finished in 9th place for $1,588 in a Limit Hold-em event. Just a week and a half later, he whittled his way into 3rd place in a No Limit Hold-em event for a much more substantial cash of $64,800.
Buchman’s career flourished from there, taking down his lone 1st place victory in April of 2004 in the New England Poker Classic Main Event for $275k. That most impressive finish is, to date, the largest cash of his career. Of course, that will all change come this November.
His next largest cash came during Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker tournament, event #9 of the WSOP Circuit NL Holdem Championship. Eric Buchman nearly took the crown, but fell victim to John “Spikey” Racener, instead finishing in 2nd place for $208,666. Racener walked away with $379,392 and a seat in the 2008 WSOP.
Including this WSOP Circuit cash, Eric Buchman has 10 WSOP cashes under his belt. His first came in the 2004 WSOP where he took 23rd place in the NL Holdem Shootout event #17 for $2,000. Two years later, Buchman made a notable splash in the 2006 WSOP with three overall cashes, worth over $236,000 combined – the largest being a 2nd place finish in event #4, NL Holdem ($174,938).
Buchman returned to the WSOP the next year, making the cash boards, but not nearly so remarkably. He finished in two prize bubbles for a total of $6,192. Undaunted, Eric has already cashed once in the 2009 WSOP. He finished in the 6th position of event #25, Omaha and 7 card Stud Hi-Lo Mix, pocketing $34,747.
