Joe Hachem is the leading professional poker player coming from Australia who turned to playing poker after a debilitating illness forced him to retire as a chiropractor. It wasn’t until the 2005 World Series of Poker that Hachem was thrown into the spotlight when he took down the title and bracelet in the main event along with a 1st place prize of $7.5 million dollars.
For many this was the most memorable World Series of Poker to watch as the crowd roared when rooting for Hachem to win. The words “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi” came from everyone in the audience, not just those who were there to support Hachem. After taking down what’s said to be the biggest event in poker, Hachem signed on with Pokerstars and now plays alongside Isabelle Mercier, Chris Moneymaker and Daniel Negreanu.
Hachem has placed in various other events, although none could ever duplicate his title. In that same series he finished 10th in the $1,000 NLH event, earning him $25, 850 and he attributes this win as the turning point, since it allowed him to buy into the main event. He also placed 2nd in the WSOP $2,500 NLH event and 4th in the WSOP $2,500 PLH event.
Hachem continues to play in most major events across the world as well as those online at Pokerstars. He is one of the biggest earners in regards to tournaments, with net wins totalling more than $10.6 million US.
