Barry Greenstein is one of the most well known names in the poker circuit and online poker. He has achieved more then what most players dream of accomplishing in their life time, and is known for his astounding ability to adapt to all forms of poker.
Originally from the Chicago area, he excelled in academics and went on to attend the University of Illinois, obtaining a degree in computer science. He did pursue his Master’s degree but never completed it leaving school to work for a software company and joining the Symantec group. Although he enjoyed his chosen field he decided to bump his game to the next level and began playing professional poker in the early 90’s. Right from the start he blew up on the scene with his ability to adapt to his surroundings with ease as well as dominating the various games and formats. He is a regular high limit player, not only seen at the “Big Game” but also online taking part in some of online poker’s biggest tournaments and cash games. His track record includes two WPT event wins, 1st in the 2004 WPT Open and the 2006 WPT Invitational Tournament not to mention 13 WSOP final tables and earning him three World Series of Poker bracelets.
Joining some of the other pro players, Barry has written his own poker book which is combination of strategy and advice based on events that took place in his personal life. He eventually launched his own personal website which is a follow up to his book, allowing his readers to ask question and read updates. He also hosts a personal audio blog on the PokerRoad which allows his fans to keep tabs on him while he plays in different events as well as discuss industry events. His generosity has earned himself the nickname “The Robin Hood of Poker” for his dedication to charitable events and helping those in need, especially children.
He is one of the more likeable pros and participates on various forums including the 2+2 poker forum. The forum members bet him $10,000 to say “lol donkaments” on an episode of HSP. Barry did so and not only amused those in the forums but also the other players in the game which lead to Greenstein receiving $45,000 in donations on top of the original $10,000.
